One of my favorite methods for hand piecing is English Paper Piecing (EPP). Something magic happens when you cut out perfect little designs from a favorite collection of fabrics and then sew them together geometrically. The patterns they form and the movement they create when you frame your images just right are spectacular.

Here's a quick tutorial on fussy cutting from Spring Daisy Stitchery. She walks you through her process for framing your fabric just right, to make the most of the colors and shapes in a geometric pattern. She demonstrates with hexagonal acrylic templates, but her methods are applicable on other shapes, and even other disciplines in applique and quilting in general. Enjoy!
